Relevant standards

Wearable computing as a concept or platform is build upon a variety of different technologies and hence addresses a large number of standardization areas, ranging from multimedia to mobile communication and from service description to security.
It consequently involves interfacing requirements with a considerable number of different standards bodies.

The standardization objective for wearIT@work is to define
the standardization areas relevant to the concept of wearable computing, and to identify, within these areas, existing stand-
ards that may need to be extended as a result of additional requirements emerging from applying these technologies or standards in one of the project’s pilot environments, as well as
the requirement to define entirely new standards. In this respect,
7 areas of standardization have been identified and the following sections will list in more detail the standards that could be concerned.

  • Multimedia standards
  • Service standards
  • Mobile standards
  • Security standards
  • Design and working standards
  • Communication standards
  • Wearable User Interface and Interaction standards
